So, this past weekend was a little crazy, and I’m just now getting around to posting our Monday musical muses today. Actually, this turns out to be a good thing as I’ve discovered two albums since Monday that I’m obsessed with.

The Rocketboys – 20,000 Ghosts
This album was the soundtrack to a really difficult and emotional weekend. For those who don’t know, my wife’s grandmother passed away Sunday. It’s a long story, but it was simultaneously a difficult and precious time.
Spoon – Transference
While this album didn’t officially come out until yesterday, it was streaming on NPR’s website, so I listened to it in the waiting room. If you don’t have it, GO GET IT!
Murder by Death – Red of Tooth and Claw
OK, I’m officially cheating with this one. I stumbled across these guys on Monday, bought the album, and I’ve probably listened to it straight-through about 20 times already. This is what Johnny Cash might sound like if he was just getting started and had a killer cellist in his band. Dark, moody, wild, and different than just about anything else I’ve heard. I’m in love with their sound!

The Rocketboys – South Plains EP
I’ve been on a rocketboys kick all week. Good ole’ “South Plains EP” and
“20000 Ghosts.”

Alison Krauss and Union Station – Lonely Runs Both Ways
I’ve been listening to Alison Krauss and Union Station’s “Lonely Runs Both Ways” album a bit this week. Love me some bluegrass sweetness!

Better Than Ezra – Closer
I’ve been listening to a lot of the Better Than Ezra catalog. Specifically the just re-released Closer album. The title track and Briefly are two of the best tracks that never became hits for them.
